The project consisted of the relocation of Landfill No. 5, a 3.4-acre, six-foot deep historic landfill located within the boundaries of Fort Sill near Geronimo Elementary School near Lawton, Oklahoma. Landfill waste was excavated from the historic landfill, transported approximately five miles, and dispositioned in the newly licensed landfill that was located on Fort Sill. EMR was responsible for establishing the boundaries of the excavation based on survey staking using previous geophysical and test pit data. The primary milestone for this project was to complete the work in a two-month window during the summer months while the elementary school was not in session. EMR successfully removed 29,000 cubic yards of waste material, placed and compacted 29,000 cubic yards of imported clean backfill, and completed site restoration during the two-month window.
